Father Émilien Tardif greeting John Paul II
On October 31, 2010, Abbé Yves Rancourt sent us an email in Spanish that he had just received, the content of which here follows in French, followed by the Spanish text, announcing to us beautiful and great news.
The Siervos de Cristo Vivo community
Maria A. Sangiovanni, co-founder with Father Émilien Tardif of the Comunidad Siervos de Cristo Vivo, announced at the end of the provincial retreat with Father Diego Jaramillo, director of El Minuto de Dios (Bogotá), that Cardinal Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez, Archbishop of Santo Domingo, had received from the Congregation for the Causes of Saints permission to begin the Diocesan Inquiry for the Cause of canonization of the Servant of God Émilien Tardif. The 600 members of the community were at the height of joy, Mrs. Sangiovanni tells us. She adds that the official opening and the constitution of the diocesan Tribunal will take place in some time. She takes the opportunity to note that it is important that no public cult be rendered to Father Émilien, through prayers, invocations, etc., which could harm the cause of beatification.
“I invite us,” she concludes, “to pray much so that, in due time, we may see the realization of the judgment of Holy Mother Church on the life of sanctity of the father. Once again, let us give thanks to God for the life of this Man of God who did us so much good and who has been an example and an inspiration for all our lives.”

Very dear ones:
Peace in the Beloved!
I cannot refrain from writing you a few lines exulting with joy and giving thanks to God for the wonderful news given to us today. To close the Provincial retreat with Fr. Diego Jaramillo, His Most Reverend Eminence Cardinal Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez, Metropolitan Archbishop of Santo Domingo, Primate of the Americas, presided over the Eucharist for us, and informed us that he has received from the Sacred Congregation for the Causes of Saints, based at the Vatican, permission to begin the Diocesan Investigation of the Cause of Canonization of the Servant of God Emiliano Tardif.
You can already imagine the very great joy felt by the whole CSCV gathered at the Retreat of the Province of Santo Domingo, where there were about 600 members of the community.
His Eminence informed us that in the near future, in the Cathedral of Santa María de la Encarnación, Primate of the Americas in Santo Domingo, the official opening of the Diocesan Cause will take place, where the Ecclesiastical Tribunal for this purpose will be established.
He also told us, and I ask you to take this very much into account, that no public cult should yet be rendered to the person of Father Emiliano, such as the publication of holy cards, prayers addressed to the Servant of God, publicly asking the intercession of the father, etc., so as not to hinder the process, and that it will be through the Church itself that we will be told when we may begin to do so.
He invited us to pray much so that in due time we may see the realization of the ruling of Holy Mother Church on the life of sanctity of the father.
Once again let us give thanks to God for the life of this Man of God who did us so much good, and who has been an example and an inspiration for all our lives.
With profound joy I embrace you all in the Sacred Hearts. Your sister,
María A. Sangiovanni. Adrienne Tardif, Father Émilien's sister, and Maria Sangiovanni

Santo Domingo, R. D.
Dear Brothers: I fulfill my duty of informing you that the Lord Archbishop of Santo Domingo, Mgr Francisco Ozoria Acosta, communicated to us on the past day 24 of this month of February, through a conversation held with the Auxiliary Bishop of Santiago, Mgr Plinio Reynoso Hidalgo, MSC., Vice-Postulator of the Cause, in the presence of the General Postulator of the Cause, come from Rome, Father Jean Jules Chassen MSC, of Sister Eulalia Rodríguez HCCS, a religious sister of Cardinal Sancha, acting Notary, and of the undersigned, that he had placed in his agenda for Friday the seventeenth (17) of March 2023, at 3:00 p.m., the liturgical act to take place in the Cathedral of Santa María de la Encarnación, in which he will make the corresponding announcement that the instructive procedure concerning the life, heroic virtues, and reputation of sanctity of the Servant of God Emiliano Tardif, MSC., has been definitively closed in its diocesan phase.
This act, and with the delivery of the sealed and wax-stamped dossier for its sending to the Congregation of the Causes of Saints in Rome, would put an end to this first diocesan part of the Cause of beatification and canonization of our unforgettable Father Emiliano Tardif, and opens the doors so that, in a not too distant future and with the favor of God, he may be declared Venerable. With great love and esteem, he greets you, your brother,
Julio César Castaños Guzmán, General Director
