Canonical Process of Father Émilien Tardif

Since the first anniversary of the death of Father Émilien, on June 8, 2000, many things have moved forward: 1) on June 8, 2007, the remains of Father Émilien were translated from the municipal cemetery of Santiago to the crypt of the chapel of the Resurrection of the John Paul II evangelization school in Santo Domingo, where the Servants of the Living Christ ensure the animation,

2) a Missionary of the Sacred Heart, Father André Dumas, M.S.C., was appointed vice-postulator of the cause of canonization; he prepared numerous documents in several copies, a monk’s labour, in order to request the diocesan opening of the cause, 3) Rome accepted the request of Cardinal Rodriguez of the archdiocese of Santo Domingo.

At present, two commissions have been completed: the historical commission and the theological commission, which gather all historical information on the life of Father Émilien and analyse the writings, the homilies, the testimonies... A tribunal will probably be in place to hear the cause in the Dominican Republic during the year, and afterwards a tribunal will be there to hear the witnesses in Quebec, according to Father André Dumas, the vice-postulator.

The servant of Christ, Father Émilien Tardif, is travelling along this long process of canonization. His renown for holiness began as early as his lifetime, but was proclaimed more officially by Cardinal Nicolas de Jesús Lopez during the translation of his remains on June 8, 2007 in Santo Domingo.
